Open Call 2022: Amanda Brix Kolstrup, "Time Period"

What happens to us when the body becomes ill or injured? What happens to our perception of the world?

Amanda experiments with the physicality and anatomy of the vulnerable body in her artistic practice. She defines the vulnerable body as one that is wounded, affected by illness, or shaped by an accident that has caused significant changes to the body, both physically and mentally. She is interested in the transformation the body undergoes; for example, what happens to a person who has suffered a brain injury and is no longer able to write or speak?

Amanda’s previous work has focused on illnesses and injuries such as arthritis, heart defects, and brain injuries. She uses familiar materials in her sculptures and installations, for example found objects from the healthcare sector. In the exhibition Time Period, she explores the body’s reactions when everyday rhythms are disrupted by an uncontrollable pause. Amanda Brix’s works and artistic practice are partly based on her own experiences within the healthcare system.

The exhibition Time Period is an artistic installation in its own right, but Spinderihallerne also views it as an opportunity to initiate new types of dialogue and experiences related to the body, illness, and health.
