"Skyen" – an installation by artist Jacob Remin

The Cloud consists of hundreds of floating, interconnected micro‑computers equipped with thousands of LEDs. Cables run from selected points in the Cloud down to its own server rack, together forming a small data center – or a miniature version of a “cloud.”

In addition to being a technical installation, the Cloud is also an artistic work – a physical space for critical reflection and contemplation on the role and significance of the internet in our lives and for our planet.

At Spinderihallerne’s FabLab, children and adults learn how new technologies work – but they also learn to use technology as both material and collaborator in a creative process, just as Jacob Remin has done. By opening the technology’s “black box” and exposing its inner workings, the artist shows that technology is not magic. It is created by people and can be controlled, programmed, and re‑programmed. Technology can be exactly what we want it to be.

Spinderihallerne wants the Cloud to function as a meeting place and playground for people of all ages – a place where we can talk about technology, but also experiment with being together with it in new and different ways. If you have ideas for conversations, workshops, meditations, physical activities, parties, or other events, please contact Eva Sommer or the FabLab at Spinderihallerne.

The Cloud was assembled and installed on site over the course of one week in March 2022 by a group of approximately 30 volunteers. Their names can be found on the plaque nearby.

You will find the Cloud directly outside the FabLab at the lower end of Spinderihallerne.
