"Vestbyens Stemme" by photographer Jonas Normann

”Vestbyens Stemmer” focuses on the western district of Vejle. The exhibition celebrates personalities and distinctive places in Vestbyen.

Vestbyens Stemme opened in 2018 and is presented by Vestbyens Local Council and photographer Jonas Normann. The exhibition consists of 40 photographs in various sizes.

In connection with the exhibition, Jonas Normann also published a photo book with the same title. The book includes the exhibited photographs as well as approximately 100 additional images from Vestbyen, and is available for purchase through Byens Forlag.

Vestbyen is Vejle’s historic working‑class neighbourhood – a district that embraces diversity and inclusion while also being rooted in strong working‑class traditions that stretch far back in history and bind people together in a unique way. It is also the place where former Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen grew up, and the neighbourhood where one of Europe’s greatest footballers, Allan Simonsen, scored his first goals at Vestre Stadion.

The exhibition is a snapshot of how the photographer experienced Vestbyen in 2018. It contains thousands of beautiful, tragic, touching, and humorous stories about real people who, like everyone else, live their lives as best they can with the cards they have been dealt.
